Port of San Diego news: Port or San diego gives us an update on Americas Cup progress

Ground work is progressing for an America's Cup Village along North Harbor Drive that will serve as the entertainment hub for this month's America's Cup World Series--an international sailing event on San Diego Bay.

The high-speed regatta will take place November 12 through 20, 2011. Shipping containers carrying equipment for the boat crews and the America's Cup Village arrived Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier and at Navy Pier, adjacent to the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum.

The Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier, 1000 North Harbor Drive, will serve as headquarters for the event. Spectators can view the races from the piers, and from many other vantage points along the North Embarcadero.

The temporary America's Cup Village will be housed on North Harbor Drive, between Navy and Broadway Pier, and will feature food, a beer and wine garden, merchandise, shops, musical bands, and many other activities for all ages.

San Diego is the first U.S. port to host this next-generation of ultra-fast, high-energy America's Cup level racing.

The 100 containers were offloaded from the cargo ship HR Constitution on October 27, 2011, at the Port of San Diego's Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal. The vessel arrived from Plymouth, England, where the second round of the global event was held.
