Busy but not without its green spaces, simultaneously super hip but mainstream, well known but unique, on 7 July 2012.NEW YORK, the city that never sleeps will host the brand new fleet of MOD70s embarking on the very first edition of the KRYS OCEAN RACE.

NEW YORK BY THE SEA...
Walk the promenades of Manhattan and you will come across the small marina of North Cove, a quiet oasis of peace nestling at the feet of the towering buildings which draw the iconic Manhattan skyline. This tiny haven on set into the bank of the Hudson River, right by Battery Park, will be home to the fleet of MOD70s just before them heading out on the 2,950-mile passage to Brest, the first ever ocean race for this exciting new multihull class.

In fact it will be the first all-multihull race to set out from New York City. The Big Apple has played an historic role in sailing legend, not least as the start point for Charlie Barr's record breaking passage. In 1851, the first Commodore of the New York Yacht Club, had the schooner America built to launch challenge to the best of English yachting in Cowes. America crossed the Atlantic and secured victory for the New York Yacht Club in the race organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron.

New York's sailors left British waters with the "100 Guinea Cup", which went on to become the America's Cup. They were to defend it victoriously for 132years, until the Australians finally wrested it from them in 1983.

It's in the realms of this history that the Manhattan Yacht Club is positioned today and is hosting the fleet of MOD70s on the pontoons of North Cove Marina.

FROM NEWPORT TO NEW YORK!

Though the MOD70s competing in the KRYS OCEAN RACE will be setting off from the foot of the Statue of Liberty, before that they'll be staying in Newportat the heart of the Newport Shipyard marina, which will be the fleet's technical base, from 28 June 2012.

Newport, which played host to the America's Cup for many years, will be the start venue for the prologue to the KRYS OCEAN RACE. The crews will leave Rhode Island on 2 July, and race the 120 miles separating them from New York, where they're due to arrive on the eve of Independence Day and the festivities synonymous with this very special day in American history.

In 2014 NEW YORK will be finish venue for the second edition of the KRYS OCEAN RACE, the event's return match, which will set sail from Brest this time.
