eXss News Solid start in Porto - Red Bull wins two races


Sailing in front of the picturesque backdrop of Porto's harbour, Red Bull Extreme Sailing got off to a strong start on the first day of the fourth act of the world's best sailing series with the places 5/6/3/6/1/1/7. Thanks to two race victories in strong wind conditions, the team of Roman Hagara (AUT), Hans Peter Steinacher (AUT), Graeme Spence (AUS), Matt Adams (UK) and Pierre Le Clainche (FRA) secured third place overall in the interim standings.



PORTO (Portugal)
- The light wind early in the day turned the first four races into a lottery and caused Red Bull skipper Roman Hagara a few gray hairs. "The course was constantly being changed and the courses were even shortened right in the middle of the races," he said. But then the winds picked up, giving Red Bull a big lift as well. With the winds gusting up to 20 knots, the double Olympic gold medal winners from Austria were able to show their stuff and pick up two back-to-back victories. Tactician Hans Peter Steinacher was pleased with the strong rally: "We fought back well after a rotten start. The weekend forecast is calling for stronger winds. It's probably going to be the windiest and most difficult race of the season so far."
