Yann Breaking Records

Spindrift racing on record breaking… mode !

711,9 miles ; 29,66 knots average speed, all within 24 hours. The new MOD70 Class are really showing what they’re all about during this astounding Krys Ocean Race ; performance, drama, and suspens. The amazing figures delivered day after day say it all. The horrendous living conditions onboard, in a mayhem of noise, brutality, permanent humidity and stress will not give the men a single break. And the magic of One Design works to the perfection as three big trimarans all stand in a position to win, and get ready to engage in the decisive battle for victory.

Slightly on a downwind positions on a northern course, Spindrift racing has in the last 24 hours brilliantly succeeded in combining both speed and tactics. While superbly handling the boat on rough seas and strong winds, the crew has constantly borne in mind the movement of a High pressure system to its port side.

Guichard, Bidégorry, Levaillant, Lucet and Escoffier know how important their first gybe of the race will be as, once the High rounded north of the Azores, it will set them off to a final sprint toward the Scilly Islands.

As the waves get smaller and the wind gently turns to the south west, Guichard and his men still maintain the same high velocity they ‘ve been showing since leaving New York, constantly adjusting the sails plan to the force of the low pressure system. "The noise inside the boad becomes unbearable once we reach 35 knots" says Guichard. "The night has been tiring, with many sail changes as the wind kept dropping and picking up within hours…". Only 3 days into this cross Atlantic race, the crews are already contemplating the finish scenario. With a 50 miles advantage, Spindrift racing will concentrate solely on tactics and navigation to run a perfect course till the end. Guichard leaves his closest opponents, Michel Desjoyeaux (Foncia) and Sébastien Josse (Groupe Edmond de Rothschild) with the burden of making the risky choices.
